History

The development of GoodEnoughCNC Plasma Cutter took as a good half year, a time in which we tested many different design options and made significant changes in plasma construction for a better cutting results and simple assembly.

October 2015

Finished documentation with assembly instructions.

September 2015

Finished, fully functional GoodEnoughCNC Plasma Cutter

Plasma ready for doing it's job - cutting.

August 2015

2.0 Z axis prototype

Improved Z axis using linear ball bearing guides used in furniture industry.

June 2015

Test cut

Good-enough CNC plasma cutter is operational! After making some finishing touches as outlined previously on the CNC platform, we paired it with our BMF CUT 50M plasma cutter and air compressor.

May 2015

1.0 Z axis prototype

Working Z Axis using rods and linear bearings.

April 2015

2 axis prototype

Design idea succsesfully tested.

TESTS

  1. Speed 1500mm/min, acceleration 100mm/min.
  2. Repeatable positioning, better then 0.01mm, overshoot at deceleration due to belt stretching 0.01mm.
  3. Maximal obtainable speed 150000mm/min, acceleration 1000mm/min.
  4. Mounting bracket (3D printed).
  5. Repeatable positioning, better then 0.01mm, overshoot at deceleration due to belt stretching 0.1mm.

March 2015

Idea

Very Affordable Open-Source Plasma cutter, built from simple easy to get componets.
